X/Xmax is the fraction of the maximal thrust possible, obtained from inserting the value of ΞΎ/L2 from Table 4 into Figure 5c and following the vertical line. K is calculated from equation (5). The thrust increment X (in newtons) is calculated assuming a swimming speed of 2.4 m/sec, and the X/Xreq represents the thrust transferred from the mother as a fraction of the total thrust required of the calf. |
